Publicist sues “Rebecca” producers for breach of contract

On Behalf of | Dec 4, 2013 | Contract Disputes |

Whether it is two businesses who are striking a deal to work together, two people in the same situation, or an individual person agreeing to provide a service for or work with another business or person, the two sides will often sign a business contract. Contract drafting for agreements such as these often include explanation of the services to be rendered and the cost of those services. Should either side fail in some way to adhere to the stipulations as outlined in this type of contract, it could result in litigation.

A man who formerly worked as the press agent for a production of the musical, “Rebecca” on Broadway reportedly filed a lawsuit for breach of contract against the show’s producers. The specific reasoning for the allegation was not reported, however, he did purportedly claim that they had neglected to pay him for his work for the four years, between 2008 and 2012, in which he worked as the production’s publicist.

According to reports, in addition to the contract dispute, the man’s lawsuit also included allegations of fraud and unjust enrichment. He claimed that the producers had given him made up information about the death of an investor to report in a press release. Having become skeptical about the authenticity of the story, the man eventually notified an investor that had reportedly come forward to offer the funds based on the details reported in the press release.

If you are involved in a business contract dispute, it may be helpful to discuss your case with an experienced attorney. A lawyer can explain your options and offer advice as to the best course of action for your situation, as well as answer any other questions that you may have.
