Florida consulting company alleges museum owes money

When people conduct business in Fort Lauderdale, they generally seek to establish contractual relationships with companies they know and trust. However, regardless of the reputation of the company, contract disputes can arise, especially if the contract is improperly drafted or the company does not live up to its end of the bargain. Sometimes the dispute can be resolved through negotiation and other solutions, but other times, the matter might be headed for litigation.

The Salvador Dali Museum, located in St. Petersburg, is facing a lawsuit filed by a company it hired to perform consulting work in 2013. According to the company, Markalyst LLC, the museum was to pay $300,000 along with expenses to Markalyst for marketing and consulting services. Markalyst performed the work, but the museum only paid a portion of the money due. The lawsuit indicates that the museum wanted to spread the payments out over a period time instead of paying the amount due all at once. After Salvador Dali Museum paid Markalyst a total of $66,800, the museum reportedly told the consulting company that it would not pay the rest of the balance, which was $233,200.

Markalyst is suing Salvador Dali Museum for unjust enrichment in addition to breach of contract. As of yet, representatives for the museum have not commented on the lawsuit.
