Florida employers and employees in all industries know that it can be difficult at times to balance work and the rest of one’s life. Especially for salaried employees who may end up working more than their standard 40 hours in a work week, this is a common concern.
Last year, an article that ended up being something of an expose about the online retailer, Amazon, and its employment practices and culture made the company look anything but positive. Reports suggested that the company forced people to work excessively long hours and even at times denied them vacation. Now, a new story has emerged telling quite a different story. This time it seems Amazon is taking a fresh approach to work-life balance.
The company is developing technology-based teams within the Human Resources department who will work 30 hours in a week rather than the standard 40. Their pay will reflect the reduced hours but they will receive all benefits as if they were full-time employees. They will also have the option to move into full-time roles if they desire. Roughly 16 of their 30 weekly hours will be worked on a set schedule and the remaining 14 will be flexible. Even managers of these teams will work 30 hours instead of 40 each week.
